Alstom signs operation and maintenance contract extension for Gas Natural Fenosa power plants

Alstom has signed an extension of an operation and maintenance contract with Gas Natural Fenosa for its combined cycle units* in Sant Adrià del Besós (Barcelona) and San Roque (Cádiz) power plants, in Spain. The contract confirms Alstom’s leading position in combined cycle solutions in Spain.

The scope of the contract covers the provision of spare parts, maintenance services, inspection and operation  support for the two Alstom KA26 units.

Alstom designed, built and commissioned Gas Natural Fenosa’s Besos and San Roque power plants in 2002, with two 400 MW units and has been responsible for their operations and maintenance up to now.

Spain continues to invest in the power sector, focusing on gas turbine combined cycle generation and renewable energy. Natural gas has become the country’s main source of fuel for electricity production representing 31,6 million tonnes of oil equivalent. Alstom’s share of the Spanish power market accounts for one quarter, of which combined cycle technology represents around 20%.

Since GT26 gas turbines offer unrivalled operational flexibility, the plant can be powered at a very low combined cycle load, during periods of low electricity demand, allowing a fast re-loading when power is needed urgently. The flexibility of Alstom’s KA26 combined cycles allows to compensate for fluctuations in wind power production. The company has provided eleven GT26 turbines and one GT8 turbine in Spain.Alstom has an important industrial presence in Spain with an installed base of combined cycle plants of 4.6 GW.

“We are very pleased to further develop our partnership with Gas Natural Fenosa,” said Hans Peter Meer, Senior Vice President Thermal Services. “This new contract is a sign of the trust that customers place in our technical experience and operation and maintenance expertise.”
