Baltimore Gas and Electric Company Makes it More Convenient for Customers to Shop for Natural Gas and Electric Suppliers by Providing Limited Customer Contact Information to Third-Party Suppliers
Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), today announced that it will start providing basic customer contact information to third-party natural gas and electric suppliers licensed in the state of Maryland. This decision, proposed by BGE and authorized by the Maryland Public Service Commission, should help customers make informed choices when shopping for energy suppliers. BGE will only provide suppliers with the customer’s name, account address, billing address and fuel type (gas, electric, or both). Telephone numbers and BGE account numbers will not be provided. Customers can request to be removed from the list by going online to www.bge.com/energychoice or by calling BGE at 410-685-0123. Customers wishing to be excluded from the list should make their request by September 30, 2010 to ensure they are removed before the first list is issued in October. Should a customer wish to be removed from the list at a later date, they can do so at any time by contacting BGE at the website or telephone number above.
“Although more than 100,000 residential electric customers are already shopping for energy suppliers, BGE would like all of its customers to be aware of suppliers who may offer prices lower than BGE’s ,” said Mark D. Case, senior vice president of strategy and regulatory affairs for BGE. “For customers who choose a third-party supplier, BGE will remain the energy delivery company and will continue to respond to power outages and other emergencies.”
Customers can also get information about third-party suppliers by going to the Choice section of BGE’s website, www.bge.com.
